Gardens by the Bay & Marina Bay Sands
2023-04-06
This area covers Flower Dome → Cloud Forest → Supertrees → Marina Bay Sands. A full day gives you enough breathing room. The three sights look spread out on a map but the walking radius is roughly equivalent to Da'an Forest Park in Taipei. The outdoor heat is real, but Flower Dome and Cloud Forest are heavily air-conditioned indoors — Flower Dome stays at around 18°C.
I'd suggest doing Gardens by the Bay in the morning, then around 3 PM heading to the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark ticketing point to get a queue number, and using the wait time to walk around the mall.
Highly recommend the Flower Dome + Cloud Forest (Avatar: A New Experience) + SkyPark combo ticket on Klook. I bought mine in January for around TWD 1,635. QR codes work for all entries — no need to exchange physical tickets (though printing is an option if you're worried about connectivity). Singapore really knows how to sell packages: unlike Japan's gentle, almost invisible upsells, Singapore lays out every option explicitly and lets you configure. Buying at the door is significantly more expensive and wastes a lot of time.
Getting There
Take the MRT to Bayfront station. Marina Bay Sands is directly above. Turn right out of the fare gates for Gardens by the Bay and the Supertrees; turn left for the mall (Apple Store, Rain Oculus, gondola boats, casino).
Gardens by the Bay
Singapore attractions are oddly difficult to photograph well — I think the heavy construction feel makes it hard to capture atmosphere. In person though it's genuinely spectacular, so the gap between photos and reality is a pleasant surprise.
I'd recommend saving this for daytime; Flower Dome and Cloud Forest both benefit from sunlight, and being outdoors in the midday heat isn't fun. Suggested flow:
-
From the Bayfront gate, follow signs to Gardens by the Bay — you'll pass through a long underground connector. Emerging at surface level, you'll reach the outdoor ticketing booth. If it's raining or you want to save your legs, you can buy a shuttle ticket here (SGD 3 round trip), running to the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest entrance. I ended up walking back to the Supertrees and didn't use the return shuttle.
-
The shuttle drops you at the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest entrance. Klook QR codes are scanned directly at the door — no separate exchange needed.
-
I'd suggest doing Flower Dome first. Personally I found it more impressive than Cloud Forest (I spent about 30 minutes in Cloud Forest). The exit routes connect them, so it flows naturally.
-
Until June 2023, Cloud Forest hosted an Avatar exhibition. Cloud Forest on its own is already stunning — with the Avatar elements layered on, it genuinely feels like you've stepped into the film.
-
The Cloud Forest exit leads back through the gift shop area. Outside there's a refreshment stand selling drinks, coffee, and ice cream — the watermelon flavor was excellent. Then it's a 10-minute walk to the Supertrees, though you'll pass a Shake Shack and Starbucks along the way — good lunch options.
-
The Supertrees are huge, but somehow my expectations were even bigger. Visiting solo I walked at a fast pace and saw them twice — once in the afternoon, once at night. The night version is better.
Marina Bay Sands SkyPark
Check the sunset time before you go. When I visited, sunset was at 19:20 — planning to arrive 30 minutes early means a great view.

Confirming your SkyPark time slot
After seeing the daytime Supertrees, you can cross the bridge to the SkyPark. The observation deck is on Tower 3 (northernmost). Once you follow the signs and step outside, you'll see a queue. Show the hotel staff your QR code and they'll give you a time-slot card for a specific entry window. In practice: at 17:00 I received a 7 PM card. I arrived at the entrance at around 18:30 and was waved through early — but that left the light show timing tight. Getting your number earlier gives you more flexibility.

Waiting time
Use it to explore the mall. A few stops worth making:- Ned Kahn installations:
- Rain Oculus: runs every two hours — check the on-site notice for exact timing. The water column powers the gondola boats below.
- Wind Arbor: noticed this on the way to the MRT at night — the wall was rippling like water. Only found out later it's by the same artist.
- World's first floating Apple Store: you enter through the mall escalators into a glass sphere that feels like stepping into the Pantheon. The building wasn't dug from below — the underground connection to the bay was built by laying pipes under the water.
- Ned Kahn installations:
- SkyPark Observation Deck
Return to the entrance with your Klook ticket and time-slot card for final verification. The elevator takes you straight to floor 52. To the west is the city, to the southeast is Gardens by the Bay. If you're there at 7 PM you might catch the tail end of sunset — the weather wasn't cooperating this time, but I saw both daytime and nighttime views simultaneously.
Light Shows
- Marina Bay Sands light show: 20:00, 21:00 (Fri & Sat add 22:00)
- Supertree light show: 19:45, 20:45

To catch both on the same night, come down from the SkyPark in time for the 20:00 Marina Bay show. Best viewing spot is the outdoor platform at ground level — about 15 minutes from the SkyPark.
-
Marina Bay Sands light show: No fireworks — just water jets and laser projections. Runs about 15 minutes; doesn't seem to cancel for light rain. Personally I found Hong Kong's building-integrated light shows more dramatic.
-
Supertree light show: Catch the 2nd show at 20:45 for a cleaner transition. This one can cancel if there's lightning — the Supertrees might function as giant lightning rods.
If you have to pick one, go with the Supertrees.
